Seeking funds to capitalize a very small store, stocking under one roof all
the various items needed to keep the traditional dress in repair.
Presently the Akha must stop at a host of different locations to get all
the items they need for their clothes making and such.
We would also like to sponsor the startup at our University of high quality cloth weaving of the traditional narrow Akha black cloth as there is still steady demand for it.
There is an entire trade just in the handmaking of all the siver ornaments for the various head dress designs.
When we accomplish a mobile clinic, it is our hope to have a smaller version of these supplies toted along in the vehicle as cultural support delivered to the villages as well.
There is also much need to begin documenting the stories of the older Akha's who are still living and reproducing these stories in tape, video and book form for the younger Akha who for some reason missed out.
It must be remembered that there are a large number of orphans in this region who often fall out of the culture.
